Give it a try the next time you find yourself procrastinating and let me know how it works for you!

Do you feel tired by mid afternoon and bloated ?

Then consider trying this Superfood.

What is a Superfood?
A superfood is a nutrient packed food that has the ability to affect your health in a positive manner.

Meet Wheatgrass - and before you throw your hands up in the air (like I did) and say, "But wheat contains gluten!" WAIT....

At the early stage of growth wheat is more similar to vegetable in its make up than to grains that it grows to be. So in the ealry stage of its growth wheat grass has a wide range of benefits for our health.

The amount of nutrients found in wheatgrass is much greater than in leafy green vegetables, gram for gram. In fact before World War 2 drugstores across the USA sold tablets of dried wheatgrass as supplements.

Today you can drink shots of grass juice or add the powder of hte dried grasses to your smoothies.

Wheatgrass is packed with vitamins A, C & E, iron, magnesium, calcium and amino acids.

Antioxidants like vitamins C & E help to rid the body of free radicals that cause cell damage and oxidative stress - this is the imbalance of free radicals and anti-oxidants. A whole other story...

Wheatgrass helps to reduce inflammation around the body.

                                 Remember, inflammation is normal.

It is our body's way of protecting us from injury and infections.

BUT when our body is chronically inflamed then we are likely to develop lifestyle conditions like type 2 diabetes, cancer, heart disease and autoimmune disorders.

Eating wheatgrass helps to reduce inflammation around  your body.

Eating foods that are highly processed and living & working in an environment that is toxic can  wreak havoc on your health.

If you dont think you live in a toxic environment, consider the chemicals you are using to clean your house, the skin care products and bath products that you use.

Take a look at the ingredients list and see how many long words that are unpronounceable there are.

These are chemicals.
So unless you're living in a vacuum you are in daily contact with toxins which

As a result to exposure from every-day-living toxins and our current food choices our body's pH balance is more acidic.

Do you know what makes the greeness of a plant?
It is from Chlorophyll. Remember that from biology in Std 7?

And Wheatgrass has a LOT of chlorophyll  which helps to rebalance the body's pH levels and protects cells.

By helping to alkalise the body you can protect yourself against chronic diseases and cancers that flourish in an acidic environment.

Chlorophyll also aids the liver in functioning effectively.

It is a very good liver cleanser. And considering that your liver is responsible for over 300 processes it needs to be working at 100%

A regular shot of wheatgrass will help your liver to function effectively.

Wheatgrass contains enzymes that aid digestion. When your body is able to digest food efficiently then you start to feel more energetic.

Did you know that 80% of your energy is used in digesting your food?!

Studies in India have shown that wheatgrass helps to treat high blood cholesterol. Helping to lower cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels.

In animal studies, it has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels. Having high blood sugar is really bad for your health and  can cause irreversible damage.

Symptoms of high blood sugar include headaches, thirst, going to the loo to wee often and fatigue.

When your digestive systme is out of wack and you suffer from bloating, constipation or diarrhoea or a combination of all 3 it has been found that cholorphyll has a healing effect on the mucus linings of the body.

So worth considering adding a shot of wheatgrass to your daily routine.

Because of hte high number of nutrients in wheatgrass there are a host of benefits to your body when y ou add it to your daily routien.

These include;
  • Promoting a revved up metabolism
  • Balancing hormones
  • Detoxifying the body and purifying hte liver
  • REgulating blood sugar levels
  • Boosting hte immune system
  • Acting as an antibacterial, halting hte growth of unfriendly bacteria
  • Establishing an alkaline environment
Where can you get wheatgrass from?
You can get it online at a site like www.faithfultonature.co.za
Your local health food store will stock it and even the likes of Checkers and Spar are now stocking such products.

I use the Health Connection Organic Wheatgrass Powder or as an alternative SuperGreens by the same company.
