6 Ways Health Coaching Can Help You
A couple of weeks ago, I was man-down with huge head cold that progressed so rapidly. It took me by surprise.
I think it was a wake up call to me that there is time and space for everything I want to do.
I don't have to try and pack it all into a day or a week.
Deadlines can be brutal, especially self-imposed ones.
Do you agree?
That is why it is important to set boundaries - for yourself and for others, so that you don't ever feel like you're being bulldozed or pushed/pulled in a direction that is not in line with how you want to be.
Why I Became A Health Coach
Back in 1997 after a year oversea, working and travelling, I arrived home and I needed to lose weight. A few years of poor eating and drinking choices had piled on the kgs and I wasn't happy with the shape of me.
I tried shakes, diet pills, not eating (big fail) and exercising. NOTHING worked or I couldn't stick to it.
Then I learnt how when you put good food into your body, your body starts to heal itself.
And I dropped the weight. I lost 7kgs and wore a size 34 top.
I studied nutrition to learn more about food and how deficiencies can affect you. I had babies and looked to be a SuperMom.
And in August 2017 I got sick. Here I was eating balanced nutrition and supplementing and I got bronchitis. I was booked off work.
10 days later I was worse off. (I actually thought I might be pregnant-I was so tired!)
I was diagnosed with pneumonia.
And the doctor said that if I didn't take this seriously, I would be hospitalised.
That was my wake-up call.
For so long I had put the needs of my family ahead of myself that I had gotten seriously ill.
After I had finished all the anti-biotics, cortisone and inhalers I looked to what I could supplement. BUT I also realised I needed to make time for myself.
It is still a work in progress as I deal with mom-guilt and try to find the balance that will work in our family.
But I know now that you can't keep giving, giving, giving and not fill yourself up!
If you're running on empty, at some point You Will Break Down.
And then it is a lot more difficult to run a family and your life.
By taking small steps and making small changes towards more me-time and improved health, you can change your situation so that when you look back 90 days, 180 days and 365 days later you will be amazed at the differences you have wracked up.
I now wake at 5.00am, I have started walking regularly in the mornigs for the past eight months.
I have started making time to catch up with a friend for lunch or to go for a beauty treatment or simply to have tea and enjoy time by myself.
